Yes, Righteous Kill was a piece of poo. I expected more from Albert Pacino and that other guy.

Is Hellraiser 2 that bad?

My 2 cents: RK might be a piece of poo, but it's a very special piece of poo.

HRII is definitely watchable. Drop Dead Gorgeous has its moments as well. I could have subdivided the list into fractions of Keatons. Or used a ten-Keaton scale!

If you hate Righteous Kill you should ABSOLUTELY give 88 Minutes a try. It will make RK look like a shiny piece of gold by comparison. No, sorry, actually RK will still look like a steaming pile of poo but maybe a SLIGHTLY LESS SMELLY steaming pile of poo. Or something. What I'm saying is, watch 88 Minutes because it's fun!

I've seen H2 but I don't remember it as THAT bad, though I don't really remember much of it at all.

It's not that bad. As you see, it's just two small steps away from Public Enemies. Which was a perfectly okay movie.

I actually remember Public Enemies as particularly dull and H2 as pretty entertaining, which would move H2 up 1 notch over PE. Maybe.

I'd say that Public Enemies was technically very well-made and had some great actors. It's only real flaw is that it's BORING AS HELL.

Please note that the first time I watched HRII I was actually pleasantly surprised becuase I didn't expect it to be any good at all. On this second viewing I expected it to be good, but instead I realized that it's PRETTY SUCKY.

Yeah, that clarifies it somewhat. Besides my fantastic memory, I usually think of the first two Hellraiser-movies as the "good ones", out of... I don't know, 11 now, or something? But I have no intention of defending H2, 'cos I'm not really fan of number 1 either (though it's pretty solid and has some memorable scenes and great special/make-up effects).

Don't you think the character Julia Cotton is disgusting, as in "Body Double"-disgusting? :-)

KM said...

The first two ARE the good ones insofar as they are the only ones that are even watchable. Here's how it works out:
HR1: Good
HR2: Okay...ish... but pretty bad
HR3-16: Complete shit
HR17: A surprising triumph!

Interestingly, Julia is described as extremely beautiful in the book. Do you think Clive Barker's gayness might be responsible for the miscasting?

Moocko said...

CB:s gayness and the zeitgeist made Julia the REAL Uncle Frank. No doubt about it.

I WAS GONNA GOOGLE TRANSLATE UNCLE'S ("FARBROR'S") MESSAGE FOR OUR INTERNATIONAL VISITORS AS A JOKE BECAUSE I EXPECTED IT TO TURN OUT ALL MACHINE-Y & KRAZE-Y BUT INSTEAD THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION WAS ALMOST CRYSTAL CLEAR WHICH RUINED THE JOKE SO THE ONLY THING I HAVE LEFT IS TO WRITE IN CAPS LOCK SO IT SEEMS LIKE I'M SHOUTING
